The Rhapsody compatible devices are starting to come fast and furious now! iRiver Clix, updated Sansa, TiVo and now Haier America (I’ve never heard of them either) is rolling out the Ibiza. The nicest feature of this player (other than the much larger harddrive than flash players) is that they actually connect to Rhapsody.com via WiFi. This is a much nicer integration than a simple drag the Rhapsody playlist or channel onto your MP3 player.
Here’s a shot of the device:
Not the flashiest MP3 device in the world, but what it does have is the following:
- WiFi to connect to your PC and Rhapsody Membership. This is a nice, new feature for MP3 players. Saves me from carrying around one more wire. However, you do need to connect to the computer to get non-Rhapsody files.
- 30GB harddrive - good size for lots of playlists and Rhapsody channels.
- Shows photos and videos
- FM Radio, Bluetooth Functionality
- A web browser
- A really nice navigation pad (very similar to the new Zune design)
Upsides:
- Great integration with Rhapsody.
- Large drive size (way bigger than the smaller flash drive based devices like Sansa)
- Nice navigation features
- Decent earbuds (a first for most MP3 players)
Some downsides:
- Not a beautiful device by any stretch of the imagination
- A little slow loading songs not from Rhapsody.
- Harddrive could be faster
I’m working on a more in-depth comparison of all of the Rhapsody MP3 players. Look for it soon.
